The same argument could be said for bringing coal from Australia/South Africa and South America instead of digging it out the ground in our own country

When Clydeport got the current contract they were up against Forth Port who had proposed some sort of floating facility on the Forth so maybe that plan has been dusted down - I hope not but they still have Northern Ireland and Manchester Ship Canal runs

The majority of it is delivered by rail - it will be a big loss for Hunterston if true. I seem to remember it was a seven year contract they had so maybe its been up for grabs (no pun intended)

A lot of timber came from Canada in the 90's mostly from the west coast but the Ocean Link was an east coast cargo and had to be discharged via side doors and stern ramp - also picture of the last sugar ship sailing from GOT

The stern tug was certainly flat out - glad they made it, the papers would have gone to town with their normal inaccuracies if there had been a bump.

I did a couple of stints at KGV, I think this was sometime in the 80's Angus. The crane lifting the Newark was called the "coaling crane" and was kept for loading steel coil long after some of the other quayside cranes had been scaped. The Newark survived and is still in use today - Peter
