The first

Britannia 70040 CLIVE OF INDIA which was my first Britannia at Liverpool Street in 1960 after a dash up the platform as she was leaving light for Stratford! Three years later it was deja vu as I chased a Britannia up Platform 11 at Glasgow Central to find it was 70040 now a Carlisle Kingmoor loco......

Cutting of my second Brit in the early 60s-70031 Byron.
She went into traffic from Crewe Works in December 1952, withdrawn in November 1967 and broken up at Shettleston the following year.

From Mike Redmayne and the late Jon Gerralde collection, Radial Tank 30582 at Nine Elms to work a railtour.
Built in 1885 she was withdrawn in July 1961. She and sisters worked the Lyme Regis Branch.

I love this shot of 92064 at I think Tyne Dock shed showing the bits and pieces lying around typically in a steam shed.
She was one of the batch adapted with air pumps for operating the ore hopper wagon doors on the Consett trains.

Passenger liner REGINA for the British & North Atlantic Steam Navigation Company built by Harland and Wolff at Govan in 1918 which as WESTERNLAND arrived at Blyth on August 1st 1947 to be scrapped.

FIDRA 1956: Lamont, Port Glasgow

Coaster FIDRA for Salvesen launched from Lamont's on August 9th 1956.

In 1969 sold, she became and had a few other names following that. As NEGWAN she was laid up outside Tripoli, Lebanon from September 1st 1985 and sank there in bad weather on November 26th.

Tragically she was destined to have a short life of about 4 years before being torpedoed on September 17th 1940 west of Rockall on passage Liverpool for Quebec and Montreal. The General Steam Navigation Company's coastal cargo ship Starling launched from the Ailsa yard on August 12th 1930.
She served GSN for just short of 30 years and was broken up at Grays arriving on August 10th 1960.

ELLEN MAERSK

Liberty Ship built at Wilmington in 1943 with the grand name of FURNIFOLD M.SIMMONS.
In 1947 she became ELLEN MAERSK then HADA COUNTY and as COMET she was broken up at Sakaide around December 1968.

Model of the passenger vessel Augusto Montenegro launched from Rodger's at Port Glasgow on August 6th 1900 for the Amazon Steam Navigation Company in Brazil.
She was in the old Transport Museum from whose catalogue this comes but not sure if she is at Riverside.

BR photo of a Crosti boilered 9F 2-10-0 unique in having their exhaust come from the side of the loco, They were all converted to conventional locos eventually and reclassified 8F.
92026 went into traffic in 1955 from Crewe Works and was withdrawn in 1967 being broken up at Shettleston

She was rated at 2000hp and was not fitted for multiple working and when transferred over to the LM Region worked over the WCML on her own. I much preferred the previous ship to today's. The former troopship BARRETT to originally have been PRESIDENT JACKSON but taken over because of the Korean War I believe.

She was scrapped in 2007. This was taken at Leith in 1987.

This was sad although nobody thought so at the time. Spotters at Derby Works pass pioneer diesels 10202 and even more so, 10000. The five locos languished there for many years and remember them there in 1965.
Now there is an ambitious scheme to build a replica of 10000.

A very unusual vessel was Argyll part of the Ludwig fleet I think. She was built by Mitsubishi at Hiroshima in 1957. As RAPIDO she was broken up at Inchon in 1978

PORT HOBART-She was launched as EMPIRE WESSEX by Harland and Wolff in Belfast but completed in 1946 as PORT HOBART. I took this in London in February 1968.
She only had two years left as in 1970 she went to Chinese breakers.

She has recently been for another upgrade at Staten Island.

NNAMDI AZIKIWE-Completed by Swan Hunter in 1963 and named after Nigeria's first President.Taken in KG5 in 1973.
She was later sold becoming RONHILL and as IONIAN SKIPPER was broken up at Karachi in May 1985.
