Re: TUG & BARGE FOR IRVINE HARBOUR.

Indications on AIS suggest that in the last couple of hours DUTCH PIONEER has moved up, taken the barge in tow and is now heading back down river. Current position is about 150 metres east of bridge, doing 0.4 knots - waiting for bridge to open? Anyone confirm?

Re: TUG & BARGE FOR IRVINE HARBOUR.

Well now, what an eventful 48 hours! As of Wednesday night, my thoughts of a timetable were sort of:- 1st 24 hours – have a look at the situation 2nd 24 hours – dummy run on paper (or computer screen!) 3rd 24 hours – have a go at doing it. But lo and behold, the Carrick (City of Adelaide) is already...

Now about 5Km west of Ailsa Craig, doing 4.8 knots. At that speed will get to Irvine around midnight.

So Angus, get the tent, bedding, camera, floodlights, etc out and make your way down there - expecting full video, stills, diary, etc etc (and a mention in the credits of the documentary). :-D

OK - question for those with navigation qualifications/skills - please, reasonsfor/benefitsof a 360 degree turn? Sea Resolute just did that, course pre-turn 17 degrees, course post-turn 1 degree.

AIS now has her due West of Prestwick , but only doing 4.6 knots - revised time of passing Greenock, at that speed, approx. 0500hrs Thursday?

Would assume speed will improve, so probably earlier arrival than above.

Not being too well informed on navigation/seamanship matters, why would their course round the North of Scotland show a loop extending about 5 miles?

Heading was due East, turned through 180 degrees, headed due West for about 5 miles then turned again through 180 degrees to head due East again?
