Re: ARCADIA

She was indeed originally meant for Cunard as QV but they fought against it and eventually won the day. Arcadia's funnel is actually the Cunard design minus the side panels. Only immediately obvious difference apart from the funnel is the lengthened centre superstructure section, from which the exte...

Re: In desperation!

Welcome on board Ruth. It's great to see you posting on our new site. We do hope that you like it. I see that Foghorn has gone down again this afternoon (UK time) and so it looks like you might need to stick with us here on Clydemaritime for a wee while longer.

Sacre Bleu : Bruichladdich's "Ugly Betty" Gin

There is a report in the Herald this morning that Bruichladdich distillery on Islay are to start making gin in an old Lomond still named Ugly Betty rescued from the scrapheap, and using a variety of botanicals grown on the island. http://www.heraldscotland.com:80/news/home-news/island-distillery-get...

Re: 73154 departing Buchanan Street

Thanks for the Buchanan Street memory Paul. I well remember the "long way round" route from there to Oban; up through Stirling and then west via Callander where we'd pick up an extra engine to help us on the long climb up Glen Ogle, on to Crianlarich and un-couple the extra engine, north to Tyndrum ...

Re: New Member

Kiwis are most welcome guys. Glad to have you on board. Yes, we are a sort of successor to another site which has gone off air, temporarily or permanently we don't know, and many of us know each other from there. We've got members from the Netherlands, Canada, USA, Gibraltar, Spain, Australia and el...

P&Os Aurora and Arcadia

Acradia is seen berthed at Circular Quay, Sydney in February this year. This was our first cruise on Arcadia, having previously been on Victoria in 2001 before she was sold, and then several times on Aurora. Verdict: nice ship with high quality in all departments. Quietly and tastefully furnished an...

Fred Olsen's Balmoral

What a hash Olsen have made of Balmoral: after buying her they've only partly refurbished her internally after giving her a stretch and the joins are all too clear to see with no real continuity linking the original and the new. They didn't add any more lifts, she still has only the original four, a...

Re: user names

Peter and others. I agree. Cryptic names detract from the open, friendly nature that was (usually!) evident on Clydesite. Can I ask all Clydemaritime members to think about adding their full name as a signature to their posts: Go into the "User Control Panel". Select the signature option and add you...

Re: NATURE

We had two of this year's crop of youngsters around a lot and have watched them grow. Some of their antics trying to get to the feeder were hilarious but this little ****** now appears to have mastered it from all angles. I'll need to relocate it as the feed is disappearing like snow off a dyke in s...

NATURE

Hopefully our real "natureman" on Cumbrae will be on board and posting his pictures here soon but meantime here's one of a cheeky little contortionist who has learned how to get to our bird feeder for a free meal.
