The Shipbuilding Database

Post by yorkieman » Sat Dec 07, 2013 3:23 pm

The new database has been created from the records of supporting members.
Basic details are present for all known Clyde-built vessels, around 25,000 in total.
11,200 of these have now been expanded to provide full vessel histories and often with accompanying photos.
The team of enthusiastic editors continues to add to the number of fully-edited vessels day by day.
If you feel you can help in editing, supplying further information or supplying photographs, please contact CMRT via the link on the website.

Yorkieman, had been thanked 98 times before this and I've added mine.
George has made such a contribution to the database I am slightly embarrassed by my own efforts.
So thanks, George, but let me say that we can all add something new and it does not have to be world shattering. If you become part of the database there is something worthwhile and often very satisfying.
The editors have so far concentrated on adding and correcting basic technicalities, allied to many pictures, but there must be many unrecorded histories to find. You can help.

You are too modest, Alba .... folk like me could not have edited without the basic details coming from very dedicated folk like you!
Enough self-congratulation, back to the task ..... !

In addition to vessel histories and photos, we would also like to compile the history of individual ship builders and ship yards. We would gladly accept yard histories (all credit going to the author of course). If any one has already written some or feels like they could and would like to share please contact us.

Likewise also for any 'marine engineering' ventures, mainly those building engines (if separate from a shipyard) and any other major components.

12,200 vessels have now been edited, we are approaching the half-way mark and the pace has quickened thanks to the steady efforts of our team of editors.
Thanks also to those who have offered photos.

Thanks for your kind comment Bob, we plough ahead at a steady pace as time permits with our team of editors.
Several of our editors are specialising in the older vessels such as those from Seath and similar period yards.
Please don't hesitate to ask re any vessels not yet completely edited.
