CLOVERBANK

Post by Deepol » Wed Oct 16, 2013 12:16 pm

Airfoto card of mine but I've seen it a lot on other sites as well of the Bank Line cargo liner built at Sunderland in 1973 one of a series built on Tyne and Wearside in the 70s.
Bank Line kept her till 1981 when she became COLORADO and as MARIE A was scrapped at Mumbai in May 1999.

As well as the usual eclectic mix of cargo normally found on a Bank boat, you can also see one of her Hugli hawse pipes in the shot, positioned slightly above and ahead of her port anchor.
This being the edifice through which anchor cable would be passed from the ship to a buoy when mooring mid stream in the River Hugli whilst awaiting a berth in Kidderpore Docks, or when working barges.
The Hugli runs through Calcutta, with Kidderpore Docks being on the outskirts of that city.
Regards,

Jim
