SAVANNAH 1962 : New York Shipbuilding Company, Camden

She was the first nuclear powered ship and was intended as a demonstrator for maritime nuclear power.
Launched on July 21st 1959 she did not enter service until 1962 following installation and testing of the reactor.
Originally a passenger/ cargo ship, her passenger facilities were withdrawn in 1965.
She was decommissioned in 1971 and after a period of idleness has been restored and is now a Museum Ship at Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.
