More great type 23 photos Dan.
I understand this will be Iron Dukes first ever deployment to East of Suez as she has suffered from some sort of structural malaise since building. Understand she is the only 23 affected.
It has not prevented her from roughing it in the N Atlantic all these years.

Having been involved with all T23 in build/service support(including Tyne built) I don't recollect any malaise with Iron Duke or if I did have forgotten and am now curious. Can you enlighten me in any way E28 otherwise I won't sleep tonight !!

Good Day Donald,
This piece re some structural issue with Iron Duke came from the Jan edition of the well known monthly naval newspaper, so more than what appeared in this short article, i have no idea. It was stated in a rather matter of fact manner.
I thought it rather peculiar, but there it was and whatever the issue, whether from the past or still afflicting her, it will as a consequence be her first deployment East of Suez.
Or did they forget to switch on the air con, or install it even.
Thanks. E28

Does anyone know the purpose of the three curved appendages on the top of the hangar?

Not sure Tony, but there is one on top of the Bridge as well. Might be something to do with the Type 911 Radar Illuminator's for the Sea Wolf SAM System.

Cross this line and you get instantly Microwaved!!

An update for you, taken from the Feb 2011 issue of that well known naval paper.
Iron Duke has served her nation for nearly 20 years, but this will be her first appearance East of Suez.
Structural issues with the ship meant she's deployed either to the North Atlantic or the South.
As they've now been resolved, courtesy of a year in the UK undergoing maintenance and specialist training, it means she can head to the Type 23s' typical 'playground'.
This is only relevant part of a more lengthy piece on her.
Thanks. E28

the baffles are part of the arrangements for making the Type 23s "invisible".

Back in Gibraltar on the 23rd July from her deployment. She left 24 hours later after taking on fuel and hosting a visit by the Secretary of State for Defence, the Hon Dr Liam Fox MP.
