AMC HMS ESPERANCE BAY

Post by riverman » Thu Sep 03, 2015 11:20 am

Photographs taken by my uncle of survivors being picked up from Blue Funnels CLYTONEUS sunk off Ireland after travelling independently all the way from Macassa, Indonesia, via Belawan, Cape town, and Freetown with 6,000 tons of sugar and tea.

Here is the survivor's report from the master of CLYTONEUS. I presume it must have been the second mate's boat that was picked up by HMS ESPERANCE BAY and the others by HMS WILD SWAN.

Very interesting reading Hugh, thanks for posting this, it seems amazing no one was lost on Clytoneus after such a sustained attack.
