Rebuilt Bulleid Battle of Britain Pacific at Eastleigh in September 1965. Built at Brighton, she entered traffic in April 1948 as 615 SQUADRON but was renamed shortly afterwards. Rebuilt in 1960 she was withdrawn in April 1967.

The original 70 were completed for Southern Region with their attendant Bulleid locomotive numbers, later renumbered.
The following 40 were completed as British Railways locomotives, numbered 34071 - 34110 inclusive.

34071, our subject, was originally 615 Squadron, with nameplates fitted April - Aug 1948, then officially renamed 601 Squadron 16 Sept 1948.
601 Squadron was originally allocated to 34090.
615 Squadron was then allocated to locomotive 34082 on 8 Oct 1948.
34082 was originally to be 66 Squadron, then after the change to 615 Squadron, 66 Squadron was allocated to locomotive 34110, the last in the entire class of 110 completed. 66 Squadron was the only one with no badges.

Details from RSE, Derek Winkworth.
Raid - Trade - Aid
