Big Bertha

Post by Deepol » Tue Aug 01, 2017 10:28 am

Found on an old floppy disk this photo of 58100 the 0-10-0 loco built in 1910 by the Midland Railway for banking duties on the Lickey Incline near Birmingham on the Midland route to Bristol and nicknamed Big Bertha.
She was MR 2290 then 22290 under the LMS. BR renumbered her 58100 as the LMS numbers were getting in the way of others BR were renumbering.
She worked on the Lickey until 1956. Her role was overtaken by a BR 9F but her headlight survived, being fitted to her successor.
