Waterloo departures

Rebuilt Battle of Britain Pacific 34052 LORD DOWDING waiting to leave Waterloo on a 1967 evening. Named after Hugh Dowding AOC of the Battle of Britain fighter squadrons she was withdrawn not long after this shot was taken at the end of Southern steam but is resurrected on occasions as an alias of one of her preserved sisters.

Lord Nelson No.856 LORD ST.VINCENT waiting to depart in Southern Railway days. She entered service in 1926 and was withdrawn in the early 1960s as BR 30856.

The third of the Bulleid diesel locos 10203 on its inaugural departure in March/ April 1954. She was rated at 2000hp and was not fitted for multiple working and when transferred over to the LM Region worked over the WCML on her own. She was effectively the forerunner of the English Electric Type 4 later Class 40.
