Nearing the end

Post by Deepol » Mon Aug 02, 2010 1:33 pm

September 1967 and closure of Carlisle's ex- Caledonian shed at Kingmoor is 4 months away as 9F 92051 gets turned after working into Kingmoor Yard.
It's hard to believe that this site is now a country park/ wildlife sanctuary.

Scrapped in Wishaw, which many here will know, courtesy Motherwell Machinery & Scraps Instow works who seemed very prolific at the time steam was surplus, they scrapped 100's.

251 9F 2-10-0 BR standard engines were built from 1955, the very last & only named being 92220 Evening Star, now part of the National Collection in York. Also the only one not painted BR matt black.
92051 was not camera shy, a number of images are scattered about to view, all showing her appearing a hard worked engine, grimy and black as befits a freight engine.

Thanks for the photo Paul, and may i wish all who view a great festive season as we chuff into the new 2018.
