Manu - Pekka

Post by Angus Mac Kinnon » Sat May 21, 2011 10:12 pm

The large Back-Hoe Dredger MANU PEKKA seen lying at quay wall of the Outer Harbour, Troon, earlier today. Sorry - no images possible due to the usual restricted access problems around all ports these days -

Impressive piece of equipment, Finnish-built, GRT 680, 47.93 metres length x 15 metres width. Has deep water capabilty.

The equally impressive Tall Ship THALASSA was moored on same quay wall, astern of MANU PEKKA, but same problem prevented any photography.

Yes - that's her, Terry, although to be fair I could not see all of her yesterday as she has a low draught and I couldn't get near enough. Looks like a powerful asset and shows how much dredger design has come on since they were being produced in large numbers at Renfrew (Simon/Lobnitz) for almost every country in the world. Thanks for the images !

A bit of information about her Angus, http://www.boskalis.com/uploads/media/Manu-Pekka_LR.pdf

She was here in Milford Haven back in December 2007 to dredge around what is now the Dragon LNG berth quite an impressive dredger close up hope you can get some photos of her at work.

I think this may be the big beastie that gave the old Pride o the Clyde waterbus a fair old thump when being towed past Braehead one night enroute upriver a few years ago, also remember her working on jobs around the river over the years Loch Goil and widening the Rhu narrows for the the V-subs are a few jobs that come to mind ???
