Bulker at Greenock

Post by Deepol » Fri Aug 03, 2012 1:13 pm

Apologies if I've missed this elsewhere. What's the reason for the big bulker being at the old Repair Quay-repairs?

Saw her going past the QE plus a Trident sub in background - unfortunately no camera. I assume its repairs Paul.

The bulker Mariolina de Carlini is still in great harbour, that's about a month now, quite a long time for repair could she be laid up rather than in for repair? If so, would it not be cheaper to anchor somewhere?

She is arrested Paul, seemingly been skipping port dues all around the world and its finally caught up with her.

Can't see it being non payment of Port Dues, as she would not have received Clearance to sail. But it probably is non payment for goods or repairs due to a third party. When I joined Iran Vahdat in Immingham in 1985 she was under arrest for non payment from a previous voyage, The Iranians had this quaint idea that they could just wander around the world without paying anybody, so arrests were frequent. When I left them some 8 months later they were very slow in paying me the outstanding balance of my salary---some US$6000----so I had my lawyer threaten to arrest one of their ships in the UK, and that worked PDQ!

Caught her as she headed to Inchgreen Peter - http://www.dougie-coull-photography.co. ... Z&lb=1&s=A - and purely for info the sub was Le Triomphant.

She must be totting up some parking fees to Clydeport on top of what she owes to others.

Has she been joined by another? Thought I saw what looks like a container ship head to head with her.

Hi Paul yes there is a containership on the old molasses berth, not under arrest though she is in for warm lay up. I was told a few weeks ago she was to be joined by another ship alongside (possibly a sister? Cant remember). Jamie

Mariolina de Carlini sailed today as noted elsewhere, after 5 months at Inchgreen.
As I posted before she was indeed under arrest, along with other fleetmates around the world. The company owed 4.3 million in port dues etc around the world, over half of the amount due to the Panama Canal as far as I am told. So I guess they must have paid up, I'm sure her crew will be happy to be at sea again, maybe they will miss Morton though.

According to the latest issue of Ships Monthly, Rizzo-Bottiglieri-De Carlini Armatori have gone burst and this one along with others are to be sold.
