Post by clydesider » Thu Jun 13, 2013 3:41 pm

Does anyone have any information on the departure time of the barge from Scotstoun this Sunday?

Seems to be a lack of information - my (rather negative) contribution is that Clydeport don't appear to have issued a notice relating to the move, which, given the size of the operation, one might have expected.

I can't see any sign of a deep sea tug arriving for the tow around to Rosyth - if it is still going down river at 16:00

Currently about 2 hours south of Cape Wrath, doing 5.4 knots. Appears to have averaged around 6 knots for the journey so far.

Not being too well informed on navigation/seamanship matters, why would their course round the North of Scotland show a loop extending about 5 miles?

Heading was due East, turned through 180 degrees, headed due West for about 5 miles then turned again through 180 degrees to head due East again?

saw that myself when I looked on AIS this morning. Perhaps to do with weather conditions and navigating the narrows in darkness. I'm sure that one of our learned mariners will explain.

Alongside at Rosyth just after noon today. Due to other commitments I wasn't able to get to take some photographs of her arrival; maybe one of the other Forth Photographers was, although I suspect that the event was a lot less impressive than the arrival of the main hull sections.
