Donald Meek is a lovely man and a true gentleman.
He was Professor of Scottish and Gaelic Studies at the University of Edinburgh before taking his retirement.
He has given two presentations to the West Highland Steamer Club, one of which was about McCallum, Orme & Co, a company which, I suspect, is Donald's first love rather than David MacBrayne or Caledonian MacBrayne.

Duncan.

Correct, Duncan, and his detailed knowledge and keen interest, over a lifetime, of both McCallum, Orme & Company and David MacBrayne/Calmac is second to none. His paintings and models are similarly impressive, a very learned man indeed.

Although an academic, he has the way with him of reaching people at all levels irrespective of the subject - as you say a true gentleman and a fine scholar.

Would agree with that with having correspondence with Donald through the Ships Nostalgia site and Facebook. The programme was really interesting.
