Arriving early morning
Following Paul's excellent piece about France a few days ago,I looked out some slides when she came to Greenock on 14th
Sept.2001.As far as I am aware it was the only occasion she ventured up the Clyde,I hope I don't mess up with the photos.
Cheers Williemac

Excellent shots Willie,

I was on Clyde Marine's Cruiser to greet the boat that very cold morning and then on Kenilworth in the evening when she left.
I've got some scans of the photos I took with a film camera on those two trips - I'll try to post them here soon.

I seem to recall someone on Waverley years ago telling me that Norway had called at Greenock in the 90s at some point?

I might be imagining things though!!

Had a wee look Gav,and found this one with Cruiser just off the stern,I've also tried cropping it to show it better,a bit grainy
but might serve as a reminder of a nice day.I just realised I renamed the Kenilworth, sorry about that, you may well be
right about an earlier visit I'm afraid I'm no expert.Williemac

Yes, I'm sure she did call on two occasions. We were South of the Border at a wedding on the first occasion I'm pretty certain which was in possibly June or July. The year I can't recall but possibly 1998/99.

Just checked my records.
Norway was at Greenock on 29 August 1998 and I was on Waverley as she "escorted" Norway back down the Clyde that evening.

What an excellent day that was - I drove all the way from Shropshire to Greenock and back as the bus was at Onslow Park - a real preservationist on a long day out.

I little knew that day that I would be on the Norway and the first person back in the UK after 9/11 three years later, as I was in a hurry to take some people from Massachusetts to Inveraray that day - who were amazed as we stopped at Faslane and an army truck pulled up and the crew stood to attention at 11.00 as a mark of respect for national commemmoration that day - and Bruce took a party from the ship to George Square who little knew who was in their midst.

We have had some splendid departures since, the best being Balmoral accompanying the QE2 in 2008, a real Day to Remember.

Let's hope it won't be long before she's back - the big boats won't! Looks like its the only way I'll get to sail the Clyde again!

I was one of the ship's Port Agents for the call at Greenock on her "last Transatlantic crossing" West to East, and there were various presentations on board that day at Greenock with accompanying lunches an drinks, etc., (those were the days!).

Anyhow, prior to the official proceedings, a few of us were in the Captain's Stateroom, me and my wife, Denholm's Greenock Manager Iain Miller and wife, John Denholm and his wife and daughters, and some Clydeport management and personnel, and the Captain proceeded give a low key speech and then presented the adults each with a bottle of wine, with the ship's official stamp and his signature on the label to commemorate the event...which I still have, unopened to this day! My bottle was a white French wine...don't know how it would taste today, might need a bit of refrigeration, I think, if white wine is anything to go by......I wonder if there would be much interest for the bottle on Ebay?
