MAID TO SAIL

Post by riverman » Thu Aug 20, 2015 7:39 pm

From the Advertiser today.

The Maid of the Loch is set to sail again after a multi-million pound grant from The Heritage Lottery Fund.
Phil Preston, chairman of LLSC stated this has been a 20 year cause, during which we have raised and reinvested over £1.9 million and committed over 80,000 hours to restoring the ship.

It is anticipated that Maid of the Loch will sail again in 2018

Fantastic news. Does anyone know if they plan to return her to her original colours - white hull and upper works, and yellow funnel?

PLEASE can someone read beyond the first headline they see and portray the real truth.

The Maid has scored a First Round Pass with the HLF

This awards them £230,400 to work up a full submission for the £3.8m that they are seeking. It neither guarantees that sum is on offer or indicates that the existing restoration work is sufficient to gain approval.

In actual fact the detail of the award - as currently set out - could provide a formidable stumbling block to any final approval.

All HLF awards need match funding to accompany the HLF award. The Maid's is set at£1.7m - BUT that £1.7m will have to be entirely new money and work. All the preceding effort to date is discounted - so bearing in mind that the last appeal achieved £160k it will be seen that the task ahead is Herculean.

That's the situation to be addressed and the mountain to be climbed and success will only be achieved by addressing the facts of the situation and the detail of the challenge ahead.
