I wish the new owners the best of luck.

I don't think we will ever see her sail again as she is well beyond any MCA grandfather rights and would have to comply with new build regs, so the other active ships will be able to carry that flag.

Just seeing her on the river after 38 years will do.

Fantastic news. I hope that Glasgow City Council will contribute generously to the campaign. Maybe someone will step forward to kick-start the re-development of the old Govan dry-docks, of which she could be a centre-piece, and joined in time perhaps by other examples of Clyde-built ships in preservation. Or is that too wishful thinking ? Are we too cautious with our bawbees to have such ambition?

I wish them all the success but on the other hand I hope that this does not remove potential funding from the Waverley and put her future at any risk.

Tug Venture has arrived on the Thames this afternoon and I see that she is due to depart Tilbury for Glasgow tomorrow (10th). Does anyone know if she is here for Queen Mary? If so, I will try to get some shots of the departure. John

Highly likely, Venture is owned by the company that won the contract for the tow to the Clyde.

Venture appears to be still in Tilbury with AIS switched off. PLA website still says departure at 11.30 today, which obvioulsy didn't happen. Will keep an eye out for deveolpments. Hopefully she won't disappear in the middle of the night.

VENTURE’s AIS now active – her position has moved about 500m, from the inner to the outer end of the dock area she was in yesterday.

Interestingly VENTURE has reverted back to her original position at the inner end of the dock - a sign of further postponement?

The Friends of TS Queen Mary website isn't saying anything other than that final preparations are under way, and they hope to confirm departure date "soon".

"At 14:50 today TS Queen Mary quietly slipped her lines and left her berth, at Tilbury. About 20 minutes later she was in the port's lock. At exactly 15:26 she received permission from dock control to leave the port. Lots of dock workers waved her off. A really emotional moment for everyone."

Thanks for the photos John - very good and great to see her.

I'm fairly sure she will go to dry dock on her arrival at Greenock. Would imagine a hull inspection will be high on the agenda but purely assumption.

There is a video clip on Facebook for those that are on there.

Great pics John, many thanks for posting.

Slight shock-effect, having remembered her in her old Caley/Calmac colours, and obviously needing at least a quick “wash and brush-up”……..

So let’s get TS QUEEN MARY back to the land of her birth – very confident we can do the business.

Having just passed 4 miles north of Margate, and with a heading indicating her intention to head south, VENTURE and her charge are making 9.5 knots.

I last saw her lying very forlornly in Tilbury 30 years ago when I took an Iranian ship in there. Her funnel, she only had one in those days was lying on the dockside. Congratulations to all concerned for their hard work and sheer "cussedness" which has resulted in her finally returning to her "ain hoose".

Good pictures Colin – (last one’s the best……!)

At around 1600hrsBST today, VENTURE and her charge will be passing approx 25 miles south of the Isle of Wight.

Winds in the area are 10-12 knots, north-easterly.

Over the last three hours or so, her speed has steadily reduced from 8 knots to a current 4.6 knots.

Would agree – plotted a course a few times, average time from Isle of Wight to Clyde Estuary around 3 days 8 hours (at current 7 knots) which would be midnight Sunday.

Lots of variables of course, plus don’t think they would want to bring her in in darkness – I’ll go with Monday.

Now about 30 miles east of Torquay, VENTURE and TS QUEEN MARY have improved their speed – averaging nearly 10 knots in the last 5 hours.

Windspeed dropping to 8-10 knots, but now coming from the north-west.

From Friends of TS Queen Mary Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/tsqueenmary

"MEET THE MARY" CRUISE - 15.05.16
TS Queen Mary is on schedule to make the Clyde this Sunday 15th May.
In response to several requests, we are looking at a charter of "Clyde Clipper" to take guests out to meet Queen Mary, as she makes her historic return home.
This is a once in a lifetime chance to be part of maritime history (and to get the best views!). The cruise will last four hours and the tentative schedule is:
Depart Greenock: 1130 am
Arrive Greenock: 1530 pm
The cruise can ONLY go ahead if we get at LEAST 100 people signed up. The cost per ticket is £25, with any profit going to the Queen Mary's upcoming dry-dock appeal.
To reserve a place all you need to do is send us your full name, the number of tickets you want reserved and a contact email or mobile.
How do you tell us this? Easy:
(1) Email bookings@tsqueenmary.org.uk
(2) Call 0141 291 5934 (warning - the hold music is awful)
(3) Add your information by leaving a comment to this thread.
We need numbers confirmed ASAP and before 5pm today (Friday).
Thank you!

Now about an hour away from making the turn, after which they’re going to get a bit of a headwind –currently north-easterly, 13-15 knots.

If they are going to meet the Greenock ETA of 1530hrs Sunday, seems to me they will have to average not less than 7.5 knots, and that’s presuming a straight-line course where possible, e.g. Land’s End to west of the Isle of Man, and not following the coastline should they require better weather conditions.

VENTURE and TS QUEEN MARY presently around 45 miles west of Tintagel current speed 7.1 knots, some 40 miles after making the turn round Land's End.

Appears to be taking the straight-line route – heading has been and is a few degrees either side of due north.

Currently making 8 knots about 28nm SSE of Skomer. Gives her about 270nm to run which if she maintains her present speed would see her off Greenock at around 10pm tomorrow night.

Currently about 30 miles due east of Dublin and 40 miles due west of Holyhead, making 8 knots – reckon VENTURE has to maintain that speed to achieve ETA of 1530hrs tomorrow.

Seems to have made good time today – readings over the last few hours indicate better than 9 knot average.

Reading elsewhere that TS QUEEN MARY is currently moving up-river - only activity showing on Marine Traffic is BATTLER passing the Renfrew Ferry, making 5.5 knots - assuming the two are connected - literally!

Anyone know where she is heading?

Just had a look at the "Friends of TS Queen Mary" website - seems she will be berthed at the Science Centre, beside PS WAVERLEY - that will be a good sight to see......

Not clear if the intention is to continue with the restoration work, or if this is where she will over-winter.
