CEONA AMAZON

Post by Allan » Tue Sep 20, 2016 4:27 pm

Unusual vessel arrived in Greenock today, Offshore Supply Ship CEONA AMAZON.

Gross tonnage 31,240, deadweight 27,449t – 199.26m x 32.25m, in from Bremerhaven – wonder if she’s here to assist with moving the damaged oil-rig onto the HAWK, off Lewis?

The Heavy Load Carrier has just rounded Cape Wrath, due in Stornoway 1900hrs today.

Surprised to read (as reported on a separate thread on this forum) that the vessel is up for sale, “due to the owners going into liquidation” – anyone got any detailed information?

It looks as if she won't be at Inchgreen much longer as I understand that McDermott International Inc of Houston is possibly going to purchase her for about USD80m. That's about a quarter of her newbuild cost a couple of years ago!

Let's do some maths here - Initial cost $320,000,000 two years ago, re-sale value now - $80,000,000.

That implies depreciation rate of 50% per annum on Written Down Value - so unless ships like this have a very short shelf-life (unlikely), then someone got a bargain........

Yes, I noticed on Wednesday when passing Inchgreen on the bus that Ceona had been painted out at the stern.

Hopefully, they have some work lined up for her and she is not going to Dubai for a further period of lay up.
