She’s back up at Pacific Quay OK and looks to have been making 15+ kts some of the way so all would now appear well mechanically.

Confirmed, she didn't call into Helensburgh on the return journey - must be a bit of a nuisance to folk wanting to join the cruise from there...……...

I think coaches were arranged at Greenock beforehand, about time Helensburgh Pier was dredged and brought up to scratch, we always seem to be years behind the likes of Germany and the Netherlands regarding river traffic.

Hi Paul –

Can readily empathise with that – would you know whose responsibility it would be to carry out the necessary work?

That would be Argyll & Bute Council Allan, plans are well under way for developing the waterfront the main feature being a new leisure centre facility and swimming pool to replace the existing one which is coming to the end of it's days. One or two people have even suggested extending the pier to enable the cruise ships to visit Helensburgh but I think they are delving into the realms of fantasy
Anyone interested can google Helensburgh Waterfront Development Project. There has been meetings at the Victoria Hall in Helensburgh for the public but I did not attend.

The story is she has to get her rudder refitted, why I don't know !
Hey folks,

Waverley had a new rudder stock fitted during the second visit to drydock earlier this year which is why she was towed out and back to Glasgow. (I was working on Queen Mary that day and was lucky enough to be just heading past her berth as she appeared)

Apparently this was an expected event and the rudder stock had already been procured. The issues with Clansman (whom she wasn't meant to be in dock with - it should've been Hebrides) changed the "arrangements" slightly!!

I also heard she lost some time last week (w/c 8th July) due to a generator issue - thankfully now resolved!

The auld girl has been tied up at Brodick since 14:00 today and her track on Marine Traffic shows her having headed direct there from Largs. Does anyone have any idea what’s going on?

Not sure, the website was updated yesterday stating that it was a Glasgow to Largs sailing only today. Tomorrow she sets off from brodick with coaches connecting from Ayr (presumably meeting her at Largs). Ayr has not been a reliable port of call in recent years, the reasons never clear. There's been a ship in Ayr today and I think that's maybe why on this occasion as they use the opposite berth to cant Waverley round and this ship may be preventing that.

Noticed later last evening that Waverley's web page was promoting the sailing from Brodick today and so it looks like this was a planned change, not as I thought at first the result of a technical problem with the vessel.

For some reason she has had problems canting in Ayr harbour ever since Andy O'Brian took over a few years back - apparently he was averse to using the technique employed by previous masters experienced with the port and insisted on hauling her round using ropes on the opposite quayside. Perhaps this has passed down to his successors.

Anyone any idea what's up with the Auld Girl today? The Waverley website tells us that she's only doing Glasgow/Greenock/Helensburgh, with no calls at Dunoon, Rothesay or Tin O' Beans due to "technical reasons". I've now just noticed on Marine Radar that she's been at anchor at the Tail of the Bank for the last two hours after leaving Helensburgh. Sincerely hope that she'll be well enough to leave for Liverpool on Monday as if I remember correctly she missed sails from there at this time last year.

Waverley seems to have technical issues today. After arriving at Helensburgh Pier on time she sat alongside for approx. one hour and thirty minutes when announced she would not be calling at Dunoon but would proceed to Rothesay. A number of passengers Dunoon bound then had to disembark. Waverley then sailed from Helensburgh and got as far as the TOB where she has been for the past 2 hours. Pictures alongside Helensburgh to follow. :o

Doesn't look good Paul. I;d been assuming she disembarked all her passengers at Helensburgh when the website said as far as Helensburgh only. Those still on board must be getting a bit hacked off - unless they've opened a free bar to keep them happy !! .

Somehow I just can't see the words "Waverley" and "free bar" sitting comfortably side-by-side !! Hope they get them back ashore safe and sound soon though.

PS no sign of any tugs heading in her direction so have to assume the crew expect too be able to complete the fix themselves in reasonable time, whatever it is.

Not such a good day today as Waverley was experiencing technical problems. After well over an hour alongside the pier it was announced she would not be calling at Dunoon with quite a number of passengers having to disembark. Departing from Helensburgh she got as far as the Tail o' the Bank where she had to anchor till 17.45hrs. and then returned to CHQ, Greenock. :(

Pleased to see PS WAVERLEY safely berthed at CHQ, and all passengers are safe.

Been having a look at her track – (times are BST)
1132hrs arrived at CHQ
1145hrs departed CHQ – on schedule – achieved a healthy 14 knots en route to Helensburgh, arriving 1207hrs (for a scheduled departure 1215hrs)
1334hrs departed Helensburgh – Eighty minutes late – maximum speed achieved 10.5 knots – around 1343hrs, speed starts reducing
1348hrs speed now 2.2knots
1456hrs virtually stopped – position 2 miles out of CHQ

Doesn’t appear to be at anchor, as movement is apparent?

1736hrs on the move, achieving 3.4 knots, heading to CHQ – max speed 9.9 knots
1758hrs arrived CHQ

So – passengers remaining on board had a period of about two and a half hours “in limbo” – definitely not a situation to be in.

As above – all’s well that ends well.

Having said that, concerned that tomorrow’s sailings are cancelled – hopefully things can be rectified in time for her departure to Liverpool.

Waverley Excursions website this morning was apologising for having to cancel today’s sailing for “technical reasons” – now they are promoting Tuesday’s sailing out of Liverpool, available to ticketholders only.

Obviously good news, implying she is ready to sail to Liverpool tomorrow – also good news is the fact both of her two days' sailings out of Liverpool are fully booked.

Concerned that PS WAVERLEY is still berthed at CHQ, although Marine Traffic has had her destination showing as Liverpool for at least the last three hours.

Assuming an average speed of 14 knots, the journey time to Liverpool would be the best part of 16 hours, so even leaving now (1200hrs BST) means arriving around 0400hrs tomorrow morning - scheduled cruise tomorrow is 1000hrs…..

Waverley website still showing Tuesday’s sail as “on”.
