NAHLIN

Post by Francis GIB » Mon Jul 26, 2010 9:43 pm

GIBRALTAR 250710: Splendid looking yacht appeared in front of my window...followed by Daniel phoning me ...

Built in 1930 as NAHLIN. Name change in 1948 to LUCEAFARUL. Again in 1999 to LIBERTATEA. A month later back to NAHLIN.
During the last four years she has undergone a complete rebuild. Nahlin‘s rebuild had started in Rendsburg by the Nobiskrug shipyard, however she was completed in Hamburg by Blohm + Voss, due to the sale of Nobiskrug by Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems.

I can find no records of any previous visit to Gibraltar. In for bunkers.

Built John Brown, Clydebank 1930 (Yd 533)

Some may argue about whether there is a more elegant Clyde-built still in service - but she's certainly hard to beat.

Surely the classiest registered at Glasgow.

I remember my father telling me her story. She was built for a Lady Yule (one of three yachts!), and was chartered by King Edward V111 when he was cavorting with Mrs Simpson, who sailed on the yacht with him. Their public displays on board so outraged Lady Yule's code of morality that she never set foot onboard her yacht again, and promptly sold her to the Rumanian royal family.

What a ship! If I had some money ( or better attended at school so many years ago).

Beside the Norwegian Royal ship, these two are most beautifull ships of their age.

GIBRALTAR - 091210: Once again around these parts...difficult photo to take as there were no suitable vantage points to climb onto without breaching H&S! Still, you can see the pix atop of a fence...

A great looking yacht, I saw her in Dartmouth where she really fitted the surroundings. Its good to see mney being spent on these classics and not just put into newbuild yachts. 8-)

Great to see her still very much to the fore. These are not the best but show her fitting out and leaving Clydebank.
