MV Selby and Kirtondyke

Post by starr5 » Wed Mar 16, 2011 7:53 pm

Hi All
I am looking for pictures of the Selby and the Kirtondyke for a pal. He is also asking for details of both vessels for his next project after the Grouville model he is on with now.

Here is KIRTONDYKE

1957, 1295 grt
R. S. Hayes (Pembroke Dock) Ltd. Pembroke Dock (506) as KIRTONDYKE for Klondyke Shipping Co. Ltd. Hull
1975 MYRTIDIOTISSA II, Kytheriaki Maritime Co. Panama
1983 On December 2nd caught by gale force wind in Northern Adriatic, near Unije Island, while on voyage from Rijeka to Preveze with timber. Cargo shifted and vessel deliberately run aground on Vrulje Islet to avoid capsizing. On December 3rd refloated by tugs SIRIUS and ARIES but started sinking while in tow to Mali Losinj. Beached on Koludrac Islet.
Finally refloated on January 11,1984, laid up at Mali Losinj and later at Rijeka. Owners become Starling Shipping Co. Panama.
On February 6, 1988 arrived Sveti Kajo in tow of tug BORAC and laid up in scrapyard.

... and SELBY

A busy scene at Heysham with Hull-registered SELBY allocated to Irish Sea duties!
SELBY1959B.jpg
1959, 963grt
James Lamont, Port Glasgow (395)
Reported in MN 3/1973 sold by British Rail to Pounds Marine, Portsmouth
In 11/73 by Pounds to Ocean Services International, Panama
In 9/1974 by Pounds to Wm. J. Sutton as RAVEN
In 4/1976 by Sutton to Ocean Services International
1974 RAVEN
1977 JEAN R
1980 VICTORY
1982 AGIOS NIKOLAOS, Greek and still in service

... and from David Asprey

SELBY was transferred to Heysham when the Goole-Rotterdam service closed in 1965
1968 converted to container ship for Heysham and Holyhead services
1971 transferred to Southampton-Jersey
So photo some time 1965-1971 but difficult to see whether hold converted for containers (deckhouse was unaltered in the conversion)

and under Panama flag, not sure who sent this one to me

Thanks George
Thought you would come up with the goods,
Roger is well on with Grouville and all we need now is Length and beam of these 2 to keep him busy.

By the way Tugtalk sunk again this morning not getting anything from any of the boards.

SELBY
232.1 X 39.5 X 13.2 summer draught
KIRTONDYKE
214.7 X 35.6 X 13.4

Pity re Tugtalk but I have had nil involvement with it since last July.
