FORTH REPLACEMENT CROSSING

Post by alasdairmac » Wed Aug 08, 2012 2:11 pm

Maybe one day they will come up with a proper name for the new road bridge across the Firth of Forth as now that they have decided that the original Forth Road Bridge isn't about to collapse this isn't a replacement after all! Whatever, work is now well underway on both the north and south approach roads, and on the sub-surface work in the river itself.

The panorama shot shows, on the left, one of the caissons being lowered into place while centre and right I think is piling work of some kind.

The second shot is a close-up of the caisson, which I believe will be the base of one of the main bridge supports.

Work much more advanced than I'd thought - as you say this is no longer a "Replacement".
Perhaps it may turn out to be a white elephant if traffic levels fall due to the continuing depression (sorry - "recession"!)

After the Forth Bridge, it should be the Fifth Bridge.
And traffic will treble with all those advantages of Scottish independence ..... :)

But it'll be the Fourth of the Forth if you count Kincardine Bridge as well.
Yes, signpost it as the Fourth Bridge .... that'll confuse the drivers OK

That's because we are very selective about who can enter the Costa Yorkshire (or get out!).

As someone who has enjoyed the honorary distinction and cherished title 'Freeman of Eriskay', how can you possibly be 'selective' on who can enter or exist Costa Yorka - I rest my suitase and knapsack ;)

Ha, the Eriskean is alive and well .... enough to engage in the customary repartee.
Hope that that Frances is still waiting on you, hand and foot (and all twixt hand and foot).... or is she just waiting .... waiting ... for the ironing, the hoovering, the lawn mowing ......

Only through the constant flow of tributes you offer to your Maltese amour .... by the way, just which bit of your poor bruised body is able to hit the keys?
