Angus

Brilliant read so far - just finished Chapter 2. Superbly produced too, you must be very pleased with it. Will e-mail you on it soon. Great stuff!

Stuart

Don't worry folks - its just Mr MacKinnon's book about drinking (water).

Thanks goodness, I thought it was another appeal for money!
Where is the book signing taking place? Waterstones in Troon?

Thank you, Stuart, praise indeed coming from one as distinguished as yourself, Sir.

Unfortunately the censors edited out about 30-35% of the original manuscript, I say 'unfortunately' because these portions contained the 'human interest' element, e.g. the four generations of Weirs, their successes, failures, homes, marriages, politics, etc, the effect of the two world wars on the Weir organisation and, just as important, the effect they themselves had on these two major conflicts, which was not insignificant.

However, I hope there was still sufficient left to be of interest.

Best Regards to yourself and your Dad who is hopefully making some form of recovery,

Angus

No - Curlingstones of Ailsa !

Funny you should mention 'appeals for money'. I offered to sign staff copies for a small remuneration - meaning £1 a time, the funds to go towards Children In Need (No, Yorkieman, not MY children .....) and would you believe some folk are donating £20 for an author's signarure

Just imagine what I could have raked in if it was any good, or the spelling and grammar was a bit better

A commendable initiative old friend, did some folk not offer 65p on account of the 35% censored? ;)

This issue of cutting out the 'human interest' is not unknown, I gather an intended shipping company history is under pressure to take out much of the family-owner history but the people make the companies and the story so that isn't quite right, is it ..... there tends to be an assumption that buyers are interested only in the ships and not how the business was developed. But publishers take their own view of what is marketable and of course size/cost must come into the equation. Some reasonable compromise is surely needed.

I was very disappointed at the time the cutting was done, but getting over it now, life has to go on as they say : - (

Might start another one now, e.g.

The Highland Clearances
The Ring Net Herring Days
Was the Chookie really worse then Hitler?
Tropical Troon - Costa Clyde
