Receiving end of Canopus's opening shot. Gneisenau is hit by a ricocheting Practice shell, she and Nurnberg were ordered to with draw, and shortly after this the chase began.

Thank you Gerry, still plenty more to post, I'd just like a bit of conversation. At the moment it's like nipping into somebody's front lobby sticking up a picture and walking away, again and again.

The late Master of the Torch, Donald Macneill, from Stornoway, was in the Battle of the Falklands in WW1. He served in HMS Kent which was tasked to chase after the Dresden (I think). After many hours and almost running out of coal, Dresden was overhauled and sunk. As a small boy I remember him telling that story in a very matter of fact way, as though these things happened every other day.
