When launched 9 Jan 1936 a method had to be devised to prevent Comanchee hitting the liner Queen Mary fitting out and whose stern was causing a 100 foot obstruction.

To ensure Comanchee cleared QM she was weighted with 480 tons of drag chains to swing her clear and when mid stream her anchors were dropped to prevent any chance of a collision.
