CITY OF BENARES 1936: Barclay Curle, Whiteinch.

Post by Deepol » Sat Aug 18, 2018 12:56 am

Ellerman Lines' passenger ship launched from Barclay Curle's on August 5th 1936. Tragically she was destined to have a short life of about 4 years before being torpedoed on September 17th 1940 west of Rockall on passage Liverpool for Quebec and Montreal. Only seven (or 13?) of the 90 children travelling to Canada under the Evacuation Scheme survived.
