Book Recommendations

Post by gdshank » Fri Nov 14, 2014 8:55 pm

My gg grandfather was a Master Mariner who sailed all over the world between 1830 & 1890. The majority of his voyages were between the UK and the east coast of Canada and the US, hence a lot of North Atlantic crossings.

I would like to learn more about what it must have been like during those years both commanding vessels through such treacherous water and as a participant on these sailing ships.

I was hoping you might have some recommendations of books I might read that would educate me accordingly.

Thank you.
