The fire was quickly extinguished by the crew in cooperation with the local fire department. Three of the crew were subsequently checked by healthcare professionals for suspected smoke inhalation. There were 367 passengers and a crew of 69 aboard the ship.
Many of the guests were on shore when the fire started, and there was no need to evacuate neither passengers nor crew. The damage was so limited that the ferry could leave Trondheim bound for Kirkenes at 3 p.m.
