The explosion mentioned in post 1 onboard Barwind occured on the 30th August 1950.
Whilst operating out of the boom base Loyang, Singapore with a crew of 40, conducting demolition work 2 miles south of the island, an explosion onboard resulted in serious injury to Lt Ronald Smith RN and AB A A Bing. Together with others they were preparing demolition charges when it exploded.
Lt Smith, who was the co of Barwind (Terror) did not recover from his injuries and died on 2 Sept 1950.
By all accounts this incident did not affect the operational abilities of Barwind and damage to the ship was superficial.
