HMS Brighton
Antisubmarine Frigate, Rothesay Class - F.106
Laid down 23/7/1957 and launched by Yarrow Shipbuilders Scotstoun, Yard No 2139, on 30/10/1959. 16/09/1985 sold for BU and scrapped at Kingsnorth on the Medway.
2150t normal; 2560t deep load
370ft oa x 41ft x 17ft max
2-shaft, geared steam turbines, 2 Babcock & Wilcox boilers, 30,000shp giving 29knots
2 x 4.5in/45 Mk 6 DP (1 x 2), 2 x 40mm STAAG Mk 2 (1 x 2), and 2 x Limbo Mk 10
Crew 200-235

28/9/1961 commissioned at Yarrow’s yard and following her work up joined the 6th Frigate Squadron Home Fleet
1962 Borneo
1963 30th Escort Squadron Home Fleet
9/1/1964 recommissioned at Chatham
1966 Aden
1966 30th Escort Squadron Home Fleet
1967 Eastern Task Force off Aden then Gibraltar Guardship
13/1/1968 joined a NATO Squadron at Portland which later became Stanavforlant
5/8/1968 commenced a modernisation refit at Chatham with Seacat and facilities for a Wasp helicopter, removing the forward Limbo
1973 Gibraltar Guardship
1974 Task Force escort for partition of Cyprus
1975 Fishery Protection off Iceland
1977 Fleet Review, Spithead with 6th Frigate Squadron
February 1979 completed a refit at Devonport
August 1979 Plymouth Navy Day
1980 Major exercise with Spanish Navy
27/3/1981 arrived at Rosyth for refit prior to being laid up in the Standby Squadron at Chatham
1983 awaiting disposal at Rosyth and being used for spare parts for the rest of her class
