7 Jan 1922.

At 2.00 am in driving rain but calm seas the Chassie Maersk hit the rocks on Pulo Rondo en route from Durban to Sabang, Sumatra. The Captain had no experience in navigating these waters.
Many crew attempted to leave her in boats, but, unable to land returned to their ship where during the day all her holds and engine room flooded extinguishing the boilers whilst bunkers collapsed, her hull was badly damaged lying in 4 - 6 fathoms and her stern was submerged.

All crew were duly got off safely comprising Danes, Germans and British.
Within a week salvage could not be arranged due to the Captain's terms, '' No Cure - No Fee '', consequently that is where she remained.

At auction in Sabang on 3 May 1922 the Chassie Maersk of 7600 dwt was to be sold where she lies with her remaining cargo of 4,500 tons Natal coal, some salved inventory and 5 boats.
Raid - Trade - Aid
Thats all folks. Sean. E28
