A good wind speed and direction forecast, regularly used by competitive sailors is:

With your own weather station, how good is the wind speed in relation to the harbour ? I hope you don't mind but I copied your station link to the SOC forum, as there was a doubt about the MV Isle of Arran cancelling sailings today when it seemed calm. Your weather station showed a wind speed of around 6mph ? if you want to look at today's the 7/09/2017 disruption page on SOC form.
Thanks. Ian.

Wind - depends on the direction. The station is situated in the back garden attached to the garden shed which gives shelter from the south, and there's a line of trees acting as a break from the north. As such, I'd probably say that if my station is showing 6mph, it's probably at least +10mph or more down at the harbour which is getting the full brunt of any breeze. Just checked the station and it's not received any data on the receiver since yesterday - so at a guess looking out my window at present I'd estimate there's a 10-15mph wind here at home.
As I said, it's an increasingly intermittent fault, to which I think the only solution is to buy a new station - which won't be for a wee while.

So when working it would be a rough guide to the harbour wind speed only, It's just that CalMac cancel the MV Isle of Arran for what seems no reason at all ( weather conditions ) or going by a wind forecast, not the actual wind at the time of sailings.
Thanks again...........Ian
