Calmac changeover at Ardrossan today

Post by mcmahos » Sun Jan 03, 2016 8:08 pm

Hebrides took over from the Caley Isles this morning, to allow the latter away for her annual overhaul in Leith. Here's a shot from the bedroom window of the two vessels passing each other this morning.

Re: Calmac changeover - earlier on the Arran route

Going through my slide collection I found these photos of the ex "Stena Baltica" in her very new guise as "Caledonia". I suppose she set the trend as the first RORO boat on the Clyde, but for the Arran run she was too small, very afflicted by wind - and not the best suited in the internal accommodation. I remember notice boards in various places still in Danish- through out most of her career.
Also one sad photo of the original Caledonia transplanted to the Thames....

Wonderful pics and happy memories too,

Although the "original" CALEDONIA" one of the initial CSP vessels was scrapped in 1933 and replaced by the much loved and still lamented wonderful PS CALEDONIA 1934. What a tragic end on the Thames just when there was a real possibility that she might be returned to operational service. Lacrimae rerum.
