She was one of the 44 Type 1 locos built by the British Thomson-Houston and Yorkshire Engine Companies for BR in 1957. They served on the Eastern Region and this cutting of a photo was taken at Liverpool Street where they did pilot work.
I liked these locos although personally never saw many of them. It was usually at Liverpool Street.
They did become Class 15 but never carried new numbers being withdrawn from service between 1968 and 1971. However four survived as heating units at Doncaster Works, the last being cut up as recently as 1991.
One, D8233 is on the East Lancs Railway being restored.
